March 30th -- Learning to Protect our Elders with Sandy Hovey

It is very frustrating to try to take care of an elderly family member or friend when they refuse our help. We balance knowing that they are trying to hold on to their independence and dignity with our real concerns that they are at serious risk. It may be than we can see that they are depressed and without enough money to care for themselves. Perhaps we have good reason to believe that someone else is taking advantage of them financially.

Most people do not know what to do in those situations. We do not want to intrude or embarrass anyone but not trying to help in some way leaves us with lingering feelings of guilt and worry. Tune in on March 30th and learn from Sandy Hovey is the director of Bostonswho is the Director of Protective Services and Elders at Risk programs located at Ethos in Jamaica Plain.

FestaMarch 23 -- State Representative Michael E. Festa

State Representative Michael E. Festa will discuss bill S. 494
THE PRESCRIPTION DRUG PRICE REDUCTION ACT

Which was authored by Senator Jarrett Barrios (D-Cambridge), Representative Michael Festa (D-Melrose)

Rep. Festa will discuss how Outrageous prescription drug prices are hurting the residents of Massachusetts. Currently the Federal Food and Drug Administration is cracking down on the imports of drugs from Canada. There's no doubt that their move is based in large part on influence from large pharmaceutical companies like Smith Kline Glaxo who are spending millions to lobby congress and local government officials to block these positive reforms. If imports of drugs from Canada are the only way that many of our citizens can find safe and affordable prescription drugs then it is our responsibility to help them.

The bottom line -- S. 494 is good for the working people of Massachusetts
